If I told you that I have never had a proper Japanese ramen for the whole entire 33 years of my life, would you believe it? Yes, it’s true. I do not count those cheap instant ramen noodle or whatnot. This is my first time ever trying and satisfying my craving for a Japanese ramen! Luckily there is a new eatery in Labuan that’s specializes in Japanese food (nope.. it’s not a sushi place..) called Gohson The Black. I think they have just opened 2 months ago(?) because I remembered that we have passed by the shop when they were celebrating their grand opening. Anyway, without further ado, let me tell (and show!) you what I had and my review of their food and service.
I personally love their interior design and I do think that it is fitting for their restaurant name. There are 3 different level and different types of menus being serve on each level. We just went to the usual one, which is the ground floor. They also have fine dining with quite affordable prices and interesting menu. For the one that we went to, it’s pretty straightforward – i.e we have to order and pay at the counter.

This is their signature and Chef’s recommendation ramen – the Torikotsu Ramen. Umami-rich broth topped with savoury chicken chashu, black fungus, menma (bamboo shoot) and spring onion. The rich white base soup is made from chicken broth that is packed with savoury, umami-rich flavour. I FREAKING LOVE this ramen! The soup is unbelievably so good! I keep slurping away until the last drop. lol

I also ordered this gyudon; thinking that I won’t be full with the ramen. Oh man, I love love this as well. The creamy texture of the yolk mixed with the beef and the fermented ginger. Oh nyum. Anyway, I could not finished it so I give it to the mister hehe.

The mister ordered this Teriyaki Beef set because he is not really keen to try out the ramen. The beef is tender and goes well with rice and the cucumber salad. They also serves miso soup with this set.

We add-on this simple and yet very flavorful Chicken Gyoza. I totally forgot the price but it is somewhere around RM12-ish or below. The fillings is juicy and tender and very convenient to share around. The dipping sauce is slightly on the saltier side but still a very good one.
Overall, the food is great; especially the signature Torikotsu Ramen. The staffs is friend and very helpful when we want to pick our orders. The ambience is top notch and perfect for insta-worthy photos or videos. For me, I think their drink especially the non-green tea/soft drink is slightly more expensive and overprice. So, I recommend you to get the green tea or soft drink, which is cheaper. I came for the food anyway. Heee~
